Chang Yung-Fa Charity Foundation helped single mom with cancer get back on her feet.
Aug 31.2017 | Economic Self-SufficiencyMs. Su, divorced, lives in the indigenous Duona Tribe, runs a breakfast eatery by herself. With a steady client base and a small income, she is able to support herself and her five-year-old daughter’s basic expenses. A few years ago, she started to feel tired for no reason. She first thought it was caused by the early morning work and lack of sleep. But early last year, she was startled to feel a lump on her neck and immediately went for a check-up in the hospital, where she was diagnosed with terminal nasopharyngeal carcinoma. The diagnosis came as a huge shock to her.
“My daughter is still so young. She has already lost her dad. What would happen to her if I were gone? And how will she cope in the days to come?” These questions kept pounding her head. She has never felt so helpless and downtrodden. Fortunately, the village chief remembered the Chang Yung-Fa Charity Foundation who had previously given Duona Tribe help and support after the Typhoon Morakot disaster (2009) and advised Ms. Su to contact the Foundation for help to turn things around.
Upon learning of Ms. Su’s circumstances, the Foundation sent the inspector to check on Ms. Su and her daughter. Besides nourishment foods for Ms. Su’s chemotherapy, the inspector also brought relief funds to provide basic life support for the mother and daughter. After one year’s cancer treatment and with ongoing assistance and support from the Foundation, Ms. Su’s medical conditions were finally stabilized, and she insisted on reopening her breakfast business hoping to independently support herself and her daughter.
One breezy spring morning, the inspector paid Ms. Su in the breakfast eatery a visit to wish her all the best. Seeing Ms. Su darting in and out, running her business and living her life with renewed hope, one can only be happy for her. Ms. Su clutching the inspector’s hands lightly said, “Thank God for bringing you and the angels at the Chang Yung-Fa Charity Foundation. Thank you all.” "
