Fen had a violent, alcoholic and gambling father who would beat up her mother. This went on for a while, so the mother divorced the father and moved into a rented place with the four kids. The entire family relied on the mother’s income doing dishes in a restaurant and recycling unwanted objects as well as the government’s subsidies for low-income families. Aware of their family poverty and the mother’s burden, all four kids studied diligently and never went off the rails. The Foundation offered Fen long-term financial aid to help her complete university and graduate school studies. Not one to disappoint, Fen eventually passed the exam to become a teacher and fulfill her dream of educating talents.
