Huashan Social Welfare Foundation (shortened to Huashan) has for two consecutive years sponsored 20 elders that live alone in Keelung and New Taipei City in response to Huashan Social Welfare Foundation’s “Thanks to you” event. The sponsorship amounts to NT$300,000 in total.

“So happy today,” said Grandma Wang with a cheery smile. In a bid to promote healthy aging and energize aging, Chang Yung-Fa Charity Foundation teamed up with Taipei Medical University’s School of Gerontology and held the Hi Life High Life for All Stages of Life Dragon Boat Festival celebration on June 6 at the Hui’an Village Community Center in Xinyi District, Taipei City. The event included muscle training with resistance bands, health maintenance lecture, fragrant parcel DIY, and the elders were treated to Zongzi (glutinous rice) as an advance Dragon Boat Festival celebration. Lin Qiu-Fen, chair of School of Gerontology, Taipei Medical University and Ye Chang-Jun, Hui’an Village chief also attended the event which was abuzz with 20 plus happy elders and School of Gerontology students. They all had a good time.

Now that the pandemic has been lifted and the Dragon Boat Festival is around the corner, the Foundation joined hands with the Veterans’ Service Department of Taipei and organized the Dragon Boat Festival themed “Hi Life High Life for all Stages of Life” charity event on June 18 at Evergreen Maritime Museum in a bid to encourage the elders who have been stuck at home due to the pandemic to venture out and chat with friends. The event presented interesting stories about ships, exquisite banquets and five-star Zhongzi (glutinous rice) from Evergreen Laurel Hotel, and a karaoke session. The elders all had a fantastic time.

Many charities were reportedly receiving less donation due to the pandemic. Chang Yung-Fa Charity Foundation however has not cut back on their relief funds to charities. This is its third consecutive year sponsoring Huashan Social Welfare Foundation’s Guarding the Mature Angels project, i.e., funding the care expenses for 20 elders living alone in Keelung and New Taipei City for the entire year, amounting to NT$300,000 in total.

Elders at Taipei City Hui’An Village live it up with #Chang Yung-Fa Charity Foundation and #School of Gerontology at Taipei Medical University (TMU) The activity began with a fitness session led by the TMU students to help the elders stretch their limbs and slow down bodily degeneration, followed by a rainbow salt jar DIY tryout where the elders could use their imagination and creativity to boost their hand and brain agilities. The elders and youths then dined together so that they could learn from each other, and the elders could have some company at mealtime.

#Located in Bai’he, Tainan, The Home of Honorable Citizens in Bai’he is home to 300 plus elderly veterans. The beds that they slept on were mostly over 20 years old, and rundown. Their partial components are out of production and could only be replaced by models of the same grade, which might pose a hazard in use. #After assessing the situation, the Chang Yung-Fa Charity Foundation agreed to the immediate donation of 20 brand-new home-care beds. The Foundation’s chairman, Wu Jing-Ming showed up in person to express concern. The Veterans Affairs Council’s commissioner, Feng Shi-Kuan, was very thankful for the Foundation’s help to raise the care standards and make the care environments better for the elderly veterans.

On July 30, a team of volunteers led by the Foundation’s chairman, Wu Jing-Ming, visited the elders at home and kept them company.

The pandemic has abated in Taiwan recently and people have gradually got their life back on track. As a stress relief for the veterans, the Chang Yung-Fa Charity Foundation teamed up with the Veterans’ Service Department of Changhua and took the veterans out on outings, the veterans who once fought for the country. The trips and activities include boating on Sun Moon Lake, enjoying local gourmet food, paper cutting, and a dance-along session led by volunteers. The Foundation chairman, Wu Jing-Ming, joined in on the fun and everyone had a satisfying smile on the face enjoying the post-pandemic happy moments and reconnecting with society.
