Founded by Keelung Holy Word Foundation in 2019, the Children’s Home houses orphaned youngsters aged 7 to 18, the number of whom had increased from 9 to 30 in the past two years. They needed to replace their old vehicle to cater to the large number of children in their care. Chang Yung-Fa Charity Foundation, on learning of this, decided to fund a brand-new 8-seater van and held the “Love sees no bounds: vehicle donation ceremony” on July 19 at Evergreen Laurel Hotel (Keelung) attended by the Foundation chairman Wu Jing-Ming, Holy Word Foundation CEO Hsu Hua-Qiang, and Evergreen Laurel Hotel (Keelung) manager Zhu Yan-Qian. The ceremony began with a lively performance by the Holy Word Taikoo team.

The Children’s Home serving mostly children neglected by their families had encountered a transportation problem: whenever their students needed to go to the hospital for medical treatment or need to be taken to art or dance classes or choir practice or when their staff needed to go out for administrative tasks or other reasons, they were quite stuck. As the number of students had increased drastically, oftentimes not all students could make it to the event due to insufficient vehicles. On hearing of this, the Foundation instantly donated an 8-seater to Children’s Home and the Foundation chairman Wu Jing-Ming handed the key to Hsu Hua-Qiang, CEO of the Children’s Home besides having a moment with the kids chatting and socializing and treating them to a divine buffet lunch.

The Foundation chairman Wu Jing-Ming said, “We admire Holy Word Foundation’s dedication to the youngsters over the 60 plus years helping, nurturing and empowering them. Our donation of a vehicle is nothing major. Watching the Holy Word Taikoo team drumming with such vigor, I recall ‘Live yourself as a light…Trust in your own power’ in the poem Influence life with life by Tagore.” Hsu Hua-Qiang, CEO of the Children’s Home stated, “Not having to make several trips back and forth will save us lots of time. Thank you to the Foundation for donating a van in summer when we need it the most and thank you to Evergreen Laurel Hotel (Keelung)’s long-standing support and care.”

The youngsters in the Children’s Home drew many overseas tourist attractions on the thank you card to show that the van carries their dream to take off. Here are some of the quotes: “Thank you for giving us this big vehicle. Now we can go out, have fun and attend activities.” “Thank you for giving us such a wonderful gift. When we are sick, when it rains or is too hot, we can go to school or hospital riding in this vehicle.” Having the passengers’ utmost safety in mind, the Foundation specifically asked for the installation of extra automotive safety devices such as rear-view camera, in-vehicle voice-activated safety system, electronic rear-view mirror, and head-up display.

Chang Yung-Fa Charity Foundation teams up with Evergreen Laurel Hotel (Keelung) to discover needs and deliver help in a timely manner, hoping to become the staunch support for social welfare groups and serving the disadvantaged groups the best way we can.
