It’s quite difficult for those with intellectual developmental disabilities (IDDs) to adapt to society and would require a place in an institution. But many families with such IDD kids cannot afford day care in an institution. Taoyuan Heart Light Social Welfare Foundation (shortened to Light Heart) houses 86 people with IDDs from low-income families providing them daytime care and 24-hour accommodation services, a service that could prevent many social problems. But with Taiwan heading into an aged era, the cost to care for elders with IDDs has risen and worsen Light Heart’s operation pressure.

Besides offering subsidies, the Foundation chairman Wu Jing-Ming also visited the Taoyuan Heart Light Social Welfare Foundation along with his team on December 19 to cheer on the front-line workers and get a grasp of the institution’s services such as skill and art training, occupational immersion, social integration, everyday self-care and fitness training, which are all worthy of our recognition.

The Light Heart’s director Li Rong-Chong expressed gratitude for the Foundation’s long-term support and sponsorship as Light Heart’s stabilizing force so that Light Heart could continue with its service, solve problems derived from an aged society and facilitate healthy aging among its residents.
