The Keelung Branch of Genesis Social Welfare Foundation (shortened to Genesis) provides a comfortable care environment for those in a vegetative state attended to by 24-hour caregivers on shifts to turn over and pat on the back regularly to promote sputum excretion and maintain hygiene and care quality. As a gesture to help Genesis raise funds, the Foundation worked with Evergreen Laurel Hotel (Keelung) to host the fund-raising event, “From bunny ceramics with endless love”. One hundred pieces of bunny ceramics released by Generis would be available for purchase on the Evergreen Laurel Hotel (Keelung)’s sales channels and all proceeds would go to Genesis.

In the leadup to the 19th anniversary of Genesis Keelung Branch on November 30, a bunny painting ceremony was held at Evergreen Laurel Hotel (Keelung) where the Foundation chairman Wu Jing-Ming sponsored 100 pieces of bunny ceramics for fundraising and seven artists/solitary elders in the care of Huashan Social Welfare foundation were invited to dress up in high-spirited fashion and express their wishes for the New Year of Rabbit. Later the seven elder artists along with Genesis residents and their families had a go at bunny painting by pouring fluid color acrylic paint onto the white bunnies for each to end up with unique color patterns, which was very therapeutic to watch.

The Foundation then treated everyone to a sumptuous lunch, hoping that through this fun event more people will start caring about elders and people in a vegetative state and their families. It is estimated that NT$130,000 was raised to pay for 2,600 servings of nutritious meals for those in a vegetative state. Genesis’ Keelung Branch director Li Shu-Ting felt very grateful for Chang Yung-Fa Charity Foundation’s long-standing sponsorship and support and reaching out to them during the pandemic. A family member of a Genesis resident in a vegetative state said that long-term care could place huge stress on caregivers and this event helped everybody loosen up and created an unforgettable memory.
