uilding a Care Home for Aging Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities in Eastern Taiwan

With Taiwan’s aging population, the demand for institutional care is rising, especially for individuals with intellectual disabilities who age faster, leading to dual aging households. To address this, the Chang Yung-Fa Charity Foundation and Lan-Chui Social Welfare Foundation held the " Bricks of Love" charity concert on November 25th. The event aimed to raise awareness and funds for "Tianxin Joyful Home," eastern Taiwan’s first dedicated care facility for middle-aged and elderly individuals with intellectual disabilities. Attended by government and foundation leaders, the concert drew a full house, creating a lively, carnival-like atmosphere.
The concert opened with a lively percussion performance by Lan-Chui students, setting a joyful tone. Physician and musical prodigy Lin Zhongjie captivated the audience with his heartfelt vocals, while performances by Yilan’s renowned Lan-Yu Choir, the Gamalan Chamber Orchestra, and the Dongshan Wind Ensemble added vibrancy. The event concluded with the Lan-Chui Little Drummers’ passionate African drumming, as children with disabilities danced along, showcasing their talent and spirit.
Zhou Xin-Yi, Deputy Director of the Social Affairs Department of Yilan County Government thanked the Lan-Chui Social Welfare Foundation for supporting individuals with disabilities in Yilan. He acknowledged the challenges of building Tianxin Joyful Home, which relies on government subsidies and donations, and expressed gratitude to enterprises and supporters, highlighting society’s generosity and hope for the project's completion.
Chairman Daniel Wu emphasized the Foundation’s commitment to supporting individuals with disabilities, especially dual aging households. He called for societal support to accelerate Tianxin Joyful Home’s opening, ensuring comprehensive, sustainable care and easing long-term care burdens.
Li Maofang, Chairman of the Lan-Chui Social Welfare Foundation highlighted the foundation’s 30-year dedication to serving individuals with disabilities in Yilan. To address the shortage of elderly care facilities for those with intellectual disabilities, they initiated Tianxin Joyful Home. With a funding gap of 24 million NT dollars, he appealed for societal support to complete the project swiftly.
The Chang Yung-Fa Charity Foundation is committed to supporting vulnerable groups and will continue investing resources to spread care and warmth to those in need.
