Advancing to Hsia-Yun Elementary School Enhancing Reading Skills of Rural Students

To support rural students' reading skills, the Chang Yung-Fa Charity Foundation collaborates with the CommonWealth Magazine Education Foundation to donate books, issue reading passports, and organize activities like the Bookmobile tour in Nantou, Penghu, Taitung, and Taoyuan. On December 7th, Chairman Daniel Wu visited Hsia-Yun Elementary, a remote school in Taoyuan with over 98% of its students being Atayal indigenous people for a storytelling event. Students warmly welcomed the team with Atayal folk songs, showcasing their naturally excellent singing voices, filling the valley with melodious tunes.

Chairman Wu shared the French children's book Willewete.Op reis met het vliegtuig, which introduces different types of airplanes, travel procedures, and airport staff. Its rich information and friendly illustrations help children learn about flying in a relaxed atmosphere, inspiring their imagination. Student Chen said he loves reading because it teaches useful knowledge and comes with reward gifts.

Principal Luo You-Lian noted that Hsia-Yun, an indigenous school, lacks cultural and educational resources. Thanks to the foundation’s book donations, students can develop reading habits, build a lifelong learning foundation, and grow into critical thinkers and self-directed learners.

The Chang Yung-Fa Charity Foundation concerns about rural education by providing tutoring in core subjects across multiple regions and boosting English learning through online courses. Partnering with the “Read for The Future project, it fosters a reading culture to empower disadvantaged students and shape their futures.
