"Evergreen’s Love Soars, Veterans Home’s Art Inspires ": Enriched Golden Age Moments with Seniors

The Chang Yung-Fa Charity Foundation and Changhua Veterans Home co-hosted the "Evergreen’s Love Soars, Veterans Home's Art Inspires" exhibition on the 19th. Attendees included Veterans Affairs Vice Chairman Wu Zhi-Yang, Changhua Veterans Home Director Shi Hao-Cheng, Tianzhong Town Mayor Xiao Shu-Fen, and Foundation Chairman Daniel Wu. Over 100 elderly residents and their families participated.
The Chang Yung-Fa Charity Foundation and Changhua Veterans Home provide art courses to enrich the elderly’s lives, including paper art, clay modeling, and baking. A pet therapy session and visits from kindergarten children foster intergenerational bonding and companionship.
Nearly 600 pieces of artwork were displayed, showcasing the dedication of the elderly participants over the past year. Notably, residents with dementia from the Forget-Me-Not Zone also participated, completing their works with the support of teachers and caregivers, demonstrating admirable effort and perseverance.
Vice Chairman Wu Zhi-Yang of the Committee for Veterans Affairs Council praised the exhibition for highlighting the passion, focus, and creativity of the elderly residents at Veterans Home. He thanked the Chang Yung-Fa Charity Foundation for providing resources that enhanced the elderly's quality of life and revitalized their minds and bodies.
Chairman Daniel Wu emphasized the importance of using diverse teaching materials tailored to the elderly, fostering a creative and interactive learning environment. This approach helps enhance their quality of life, builds confidence, and may reduce or delay aging and dementia.
Director Shi Hao-Cheng of Changhua Veterans Home noted that 25 art courses last year engaged over 1,000 seniors. Despite initial challenges, support and adjustments helped them gain confidence. The activities enhanced creativity, coordination, and overall well-being.
78-year-old resident Li Chang-Hai thanked the Chang Yung-Fa Charity Foundation and Changhua Veterans Home for offering enjoyable courses. He appreciated the teachers' patience, noting that each completed work brought joy and a sense of accomplishment.
The Chang Yung-Fa Charity Foundation will continue to offer long-term care art courses, enriching the elderly's lives, helping them find a sense of belonging, and fostering a vibrant, warm society.
