Restoring Hope: Chang Yung-Fa Charity Foundation Supports Burn Survivors in Eastern Taiwan
Burn recovery is a long and difficult journey. Survivors face not only physical pain and repeated surgeries, but also the discomfort of wearing pressure garments and the emotional stress caused by public attention. To support underprivileged burn and facial injury survivors in Eastern Taiwan, the Chang Yung-Fa Charity Foundation sponsors the Sunshine Social Welfare Foundation Eastern Service Center, helping cover medical, transportation, and counseling expenses so that treatment is not interrupted due to financial hardship.
Chairman Daniel Wu personally visited the center in Hualien to express his care and support, and to better understand the challenges survivors face during recovery.
He noted that due to limited medical resources and long travel distances in Eastern Taiwan, patients often face heavier financial and transportation burdens. The Foundation hopes this support can ease those pressures and allow survivors to focus on recovery and regain their confidence.
The center director shared that many service users live in remote areas, requiring outreach service from social workers and therapists. The Foundation’s steadfast support is key to maintaining stable services and ensuring survivors know they are not alone.
One survivor shared that they once struggled with depression following the accident, but gradually regained strength with professional intervention and social care. Chairman Wu also encouraged them to remain resilient and continue their rehabilitation journey.
