Student Chiu went to Taipei First Girls High School and School of Medicine, College of Medicine, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYMCTU). Later her father passed away and her mother had cancer and was paralyzed from having a stroke when she was in her fourth year of university. She became her mother’s primary caregiver overnight and had to support the university tuition fees of her brother who studied in another city. On receiving notification, the Foundation offered student Chiu financial relief to reduce her monetary stress. In July this year, Chiu graduated top of her department in (NYMCTU) and officially served in Taipei Veterans General Hospital as an intern resident doctor. During her internship the salary is up to NT$70,000 per month, allowing her family to financially support themselves.
