Mountain and Sea Legends Cycling Tour - Youthful Energy in Action: Ren He Junior High School's Community Service Learning
Today marks the second-to-last day of Ren He Junior High School's cycling trip around the island. After several days of long-distance cycling, the students' bodies and spirits have gradually become fatigued. Therefore, the Chang Yung-Fa Charity Foundation arranged a brief rest stop in Yilan, where the students visited the affiliated Lan-chui Social Welfare Foundation 's Lanyang Intelligent Development Academy for a session of community service learning, fostering a spirit of caring for social welfare.
This was the first time the students from Ren He Junior High School had engaged in social service at a facility for the physically challenged. Upon entering the facility, they were warmly greeted by enthusiastic Lan-chui Social Welfare Foundation staff members who provided them with a brief introduction to the various services provided for people with physical and mental disabilities. This helped the students gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and needs faced by individuals with disabilities.
Subsequently, the students assisted in preparing lunch at the facility, working alongside the staff to prepare a nutritious meal. From washing and cutting vegetables to making dumplings, slicing fruits, and preparing sweet soup, everyone did their best to showcase their skills and contribute. Despite encountering some challenges, with mutual assistance, they were able to overcome them successfully.
In addition to assisting with lunch preparation, the students also dedicated themselves to environmental cleaning tasks, organizing teams to clean the dining area, wash dishes, wipe tables and chairs, and tidy up the kitchen, conscientiously cleaning every corner to create a better living environment at Lan-chui. Witnessing the environment becoming tidier, they realized that their efforts could bring comfort and warmth to others.
Student Chen remarked, "This community service learning has been very rewarding for me, especially seeing how individuals with disabilities live with resilience and courage. It has prompted me to reflect actively and has motivated me to study hard and cherish everything I have."
This community service learning not only conveyed societal care to the underprivileged but also provided valuable growth experiences for the students of Ren He Junior High School. It inspired them to develop the ability to care for and empathize with others, and to understand the profound contribution and impact their efforts have on society.
